Carol Townsend

Obituary of Carol Sterling Townsend

Carol entered this life on March 30, 1943 in Miles City, Montana and entered into rest on March 13, 2018, just before her 75th birthday. She grew up as the big sister of Jim Sterling and attended Hardin High School. While in high school, Carol’s favorite activities were singing in the glee club, playing the clarinet in the band and participating on the swim team. Being elected as the 1959 Homecoming Queen of Hardin High School was a highlight of her teen years. Right after high school Carol married and started a family. She worked while raising four children. Carol was proud of her 40-year career as a business manager that spanned across the hospitality industry and educational services industry. The family moved to Redding, California in the mid 70’s through the early 80’s. Then her career took her to Washington State for nearly sixteen years until she decided to move down to San Diego to be near family. She loved talking to people and was very well respected as a great mentor/manager who took time to help young professionals hone their skills. Just after she retired from working, Carol met Gene Townsend while singing karaoke in Alpine. They quickly fell deeply in love and decided to get married on the shores of Hawaii. The two were best friends, doing everything together. They loved bowling, fishing and taking long drives in the Laguna Mountains. Carol was a strong believer who loved the Lord and attended Sonrise Community Church in Santee and then Shadow Mountain Community Church in El Cajon and Alpine. Her love of music led her to dedicate many years singing in church choirs. Carol also found much enjoyment spending special moments with her husband and family. While she valiantly fought multiple myeloma cancer the last three years, ultimately complications from the disease took Carol’s life. She will be deeply missed by her husband Eugene, daughters Pamela Daly and Melissa Morgan, sons Joel Ankerich and Cary Ankerich; brother Jim Sterling; grandchildren Jessica, Lauren, Amanda, Brandon, and Daniel; great grandchildren Ryan, Twila, and Arlo, and extended family and friends. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Monday, March 26th at 2:00 p.m. at the Shadow Mountain Community Church — Alpine Campus at 3520 Alpine Boulevard, Alpine, California. Should friends desire, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Carol’s memory to Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation at: httpstribute.themmrf.org/inmemoryofCarolSterling://tribute.themmrf.org/inmemoryofCarolSterling
