To the family of VADM McCauley: FAIR WINDS AND FOLLOWING SEAS
It is with deep regret that I just read about the passing of VADM McCAULEY today, July 11, 2019. He was my division officer aboard the USS Herbert J. Thomas (DDR-833). We made three WESTPAC tours from my time aboard; February 26, 1955 until June 25, 1958.
Cdr. John C. Borden, was our captain for the major part of my time aboard. I knew that he had introduced Scot to his wife. The last time I saw her and any of the crew on the Thomas, including Captain Borden, his second wife, and the admiral, was when he retired from the Navy aboard the USS Iwo Jima in Norfolk, VA. In 1987. I had also retired from the Navy from the staff of COMFIVEHQ, Norfolk, on October 1, 1979. I had just been promoted to Public Affairs Officer,(GS-12), Defense Fuel Supply Center, Washington, DC. My wife, Joyce, and I had a brief meeting with the admiral. It was like we had never been apart, the memories of that time are still with me. Hand Salute to VADM McCauley.
